🎨 Pattern Play: Easy Steps for Collaborative Art Projects with Kids
Looking for an easy, flexible way to start collaborative art projects with kids or school groups? Try this simple process using Pattern Play!
Step 1: Messy Playing
Start by filling the surface with playful, loose marks—dots, swirls, dashes, and circles. Let kids explore freely, layering 3 bright colours in a family (cools or warms) with patterns and clusters.
Step 2: Exploring Patterns
Next, add layers of patterns for extra texture and interest. Use Pattern Play Cards or Pattern Play Pages for inspiration. Kids can trace, repeat, and remix patterns in different colours and sizes, working together to create a lively, layered design.
👉 Tip: Use larger brushes at first, then switch to smaller ones for the top layers. This builds depth and keeps the artwork visually rich.
Step 3: Bling
Finish with a bit of ‘bling’—add shiny paints, metallic markers, or fun stick on gems or dot stickers for a playful pop of sparkle.
